Calvin Klein Fall '11
Style ID:  Laid back luxury
This leather shift can be dressed up or down

For the past 8 days, I've been following the tweets of stylists, designers and celebrities.  Hopefully, they will be able to get some well deserved rest this weekend because they have been on their creative grinds!  Tomorrow is the final day of fashion week and according to the schedule, there will be no live streams.  Tomorrow, two of America's premier designers will come out and eyes will be watching to determine the trend of true American glamour.  Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein will showcase their spring collections and both have a history of producing clean lined, pure tailored apparel.  Although the schedule doesn't indicate live streams for these shows, I will still be checking out the LiveRunway channel on YouTube to see if these shows are aired.  The past few days I've been able to view shows that were not scheduled to be live streamed.  Also tomorrow, I will do a post on the primary trends seen on the runway for Fall and Spring.  Then the planning can begin!

My Apologies to Korto Momolu

Designer Korto Momolu
Her website is currently in the works
http://www.kortomomolu.com/

In my zeal to post the live stream schedule for fashion week yesterday, I committed a serious fashion violation.  I neglected to not just make mention, but shine a bright spotlight on Korto Momolu.

Korto Momolu, of Project Runway Season 5, is a woman who is seriously passionate about her craft.  The first time I watched Korto on Project Runway, a fashion design/competition reality show, I was mesmerized by her design skills and the logistically original way in which she transformed them in to visual art.  I was also highly impressed by her consistent creation of ethnic inspired designs and don't sleep on her accessory game either.  She is a multi-talented force!

Korto is not to be ignored and she should be admired by any woman who has a dream.  This wife and mother stepped out on the edge and is now a world renown designer.

Yesterday, her Spring 2012 collection took to the runway at New York Fashion Week and although I have yet to see any of the pieces, I was just as inspired knowing that she is still pushing forward creating fashion magic.

P.S. Trust me, when I see them you WILL see them!

Quick Post: 31 Day Reset Update

I will not allow the excitement of Fashion Week to remove me from my conduct square so I wanted to do a quick update on my 31 Day Reset.  Let me start by saying that I haven't been on a "go within" journey in about 7 years and it's not that I didn't want to or was afraid.  It has crossed my mind about a hundred times in the last 7 years to do this.  I definitely needed it and my internal self has been yearning for it.  The situation is so bad that I am sure I have been crying inside.  The 31 day reset was just the prescription I needed because it is taking me places mentally that I really needed to go.

It is very easy for moms, not to mention single moms (especially those of us who who feel we have gone seriously "all in" to make it happen) to lose sight of our internal selves.  Well this 31 Day Reset is pulling me inside out!  The simple act of journaling my assignments and having to honestly assess my state of being is really opening my eyes to the true quality of life I have been living.  Although I haven't been posting a daily update on my progress, I plan on doing a more detailed post as my breakthrough becomes clearer.

If you can feel where I'm going with this, please learn more about it by going to http://www.happyblackwoman.com/.

For the next 8 days I will be in a New York state of mind because the city that never sleeps will be abuzz with one of my favorite things.  Fashion!  Designers will be showcasing their spring wears from September 8th to September 15th.  As much as I would love to, I can't be there, but the geniuses at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will be streaming select shows live on YouTube.  Each day I will post a schedule of live streams for following day.  To the lower left of these posts is a YouTube gadget where you can watch them at their scheduled time.  So get with the program and enjoy!

P.S.  Remember, the live streams are scheduled in Eastern Standard Time so adjust to your time zone and plan ahead to see your favorite designers.  Ciao Divas!

The 31 Day Reset

Friday night I was on the web searching for inspirational websites and blogs by women who are on or desire to be on the same path as I.  During my search, I ran across a website that encompasses all of the positivity I need to keep me on track.  The bonus is that it also included a plan for resetting your life called The 31 Day Reset.  Getting started was simple, but the internal journey it takes you on requires time, reflection, honesty and belief in yourself.  Here is a recap of my first 2 days.

Day 1:  I had to choose a notebook for the daily assignments (big ups to my cousin for giving me this journal a couple years ago and recognizing my talent as a writer).  My notebook has a Psalm at the top of each page which is the perfect inspiration for this endeavor.  Also, I had to choose a mantra.  I made up my own which is, Sacrifice=Success All Day.  This mantra is important for me because of my procrastination and commitment issues.  Also, I had to choose a theme song.  I chose It's Alright by Ledisi.  I chose this song because it is about learning to relax and live happily through life's ups and downs.  Each day I must reflect on both my mantra and theme song.  If I truly believe in them, they will soon come to represent the way I deal with my life.

Day 2:  I haven't completed this assignment yet, but it is basically about assessing the love/hate relationship I have with several areas of my life.

Day 3 will be coming at me fast so I will do an updated post when I've completed Days 2 and 3.  Until then, please visit http://www.happyblackwoman.com/ to learn more about Rosetta Thurman, her website and The 31 Day Reset.

I do believe that the creator, Rosetta Thurman has created a wonderful tool for women.

I Passed!

I am so excited to report the results of my RSVP Test!  For me, this weekend presented quite a challenge.  I was invited to 2 events, made plans for my daughter and I to have a staycation and there was also a pop quiz of sorts involved.

Saturday was supposed to be a light day.  I wasn't sweating the baby shower because it was scheduled to start at 1 in the afternoon.  I assumed it would be a breeze; and it was to a certain degree, but I forgot my daughter had her own social activities to attend Saturday.  Luckily, hers included an early morning play date at a friend's house, which was accompanied by an outing provided by her friend's mother.  The glory in this was that it forced me to get my day started early and her absence allowed me the time I needed to prepare for the baby shower.  However, I lost some points on this part of the test for two reasons.  One, I neglected to buy a gift bag so I had to stop on the way to get one.  Two, I neglected to bring the invitation with me and my memory failed me on the location.  I went to the wrong community center and arrived 1 hour late at the right location.  Thankfully, the baby shower didn't officially get started until 3 due to issues with the food.  Also, I was able to recoup some points on this task because I won a gift for being the 1st person to RSVP!  Wow!

Also on Saturday, I planned a staycation for my daughter and I since I wasn't able to afford an official summer vacation.  The baby shower was over at 5 and I left there zooming to pick my daughter up and get to the hotel.  The staycation was a success and even more so for my daughter because her dad came in from DC and surprised her while we were at Dave and Buster's.  Another wow!  The staycation was also a success!

Now the BBQ at my cousin's today was definitely going to be my biggest hurdle because I was just coming off of a busy Saturday and I was praying that my health didn't try to sit me down.  The BBQ started at 3 and I slept from 2:30 to about 5.  At 6 I started getting into one of my questionable moods, but at 7 I called to make sure it was not too late to come.  My cousin said it wasn't so we prepared to leave immediately.  Before I walked out the door, I decided to step my game up and take a token of thanks for the invite.  Hopefully, it would let my cousin know that she is appreciated and that her invites are never taken for granted.  Once again my willingness to do the right thing was recognized when my cousin noticed the bottle of wine I brought hadn't been opened.  She asked if I wanted to take it back home.  I told her the bottle of wine was for her and she could add it to her collection.  One of her friends applauded me for being a giver and not a taker backer.

If this was a real test I would definitely give myself an A+.  Okay maybe an A, but not an A+ because of the late arrivals.  For me, the final grade is not as important as the opportunity I had to redeem myself and be surrounded by the people I love while doing it.

Quick Post: The RSVP Test

Okay, I'm under the gun! This weekend I have 2 invites to fulfill; a baby shower Saturday and a BBQ Sunday at my cousin's who I owe big time on the no-show issue.  My intention is to attend both events.  Both are kid friendly and will be an opportunity to be surrounded by family, but here is the coup de gras, my daughter started sneezing and blowing her nose last night and she is now in bed sleeping.  My prayer is that her allergies are trying to get the best of her and not a nasty cold or virus.  I'll post an update after the Labor Day weekend has passed.  Wish me luck!
