Fashion Find: Goodwill

Missoni for Target Colore Mini Chevron Full/Queen Duvet Set purchased from Goodwill for $26!
September 13th was a good day for Target and Italian knitwear designer, Missoni.  Target is probably the original discount store purveyor of designer collaborations.  In the past, they have called upon designers such as Isaac Mizrahi, Zac Posen, Todd Oldham and even Jean Paul Gaultier to create exclusive lines for their apparel and home decor divisions, but who knew that their collabo with Missoni would create the retail frenzy that it did.  So much so, that on opening day, Target's website crashed due to the over abundance of consumer activity.  In news stories seen around the country, September 13th rivaled Black Friday with customers rushing the door in a fit to be the first to purchase Missoni goods.  As it turns out, it was a good thing they did because many Target stores sold out of what was intended to be a 6 week supply!

My Missoni for Target experience was quite different.  It was a rainy day and my co-worker and I went back and forth about whether or not it was a good day for us to make our lunchtime Goodwill run.  Finally, I convinced her that we should do it just to get away from the office and to have a little thrift store therapy.

When I go to Goodwill there is a path I take that I generally do not veer from.  I start in the kids department with hopes of snagging pieces for my daughter from The Gap, Old Navy, Justice for Girls, Ralph Lauren, etc. and yes I'm a tag whore!  Next, I go to the plus size section, which consists of 1 rack and I usually anticipate finding nothing.  This day was no different, except I decided to peek at the nearby linen section to find something for home.  I got a rug and then all of a sudden my eyes became affixed on what appeared to be a zig-zag comforter.  I slowly walked closer to get a better look.  I'm a feeler so I rubbed it and looked at it closely and sure enough, it appeared to be a Missoni for Target duvet.  Next to it was hanging 2 matching shams!  I threw it in the cart and moved on quickly to my other favorite departments, still not even sure if it was really Missoni for Target.  I checked the shams for a price and was able to see that they were $2.99.  The duvet was going to be more of a chore because it was rather big to be unfolding to search for a price.  At the register, one of the cashiers said, "That's the stuff they've been fighting over at Target."  The price of the duvet became an issue because it wasn't marked.  The cashier left to find the manager, but there was a long line building behind me.  Goodwill can be cut throat and I was beginning to sweat just looking at line of customers behind me, but I was going to stand my ground for this purchase.  Soon the cashier came back and said, "$20?"  I said, "Let's do it!"  It was done, I purchased a Missoni, full/queen duvet set at Goodwill for $26!  I went online to check the exact name and price of my set and it is the Colore Mini Chevron design, priced at $99.99.  I also checked the tags inside the set and it clearly reads on the bronze colored tags, "Missoni for Target".  Tell me I'm not blessed!  Thank you Missoni, Target and most of all Goodwill!

Fashion Find: Church Tailgate Sale

In this post, I would like to open myself up and admit to my readers that...I'm a gold digger!  Not a Kanye West gold digger or a Sharon Stone in Casino gold digger, but I'm a bargain hunting gold digger.  God gave me eyes that can scan and locate stylish, affordable items when I'm in affordable places.  Today I am so excited to share my finds!  My morning started out with my daughter begging me, at 10 in the morning, to go to a garage sale that she spotted a few doors down.  Unwillingly, I threw on a jacket and shuffled my way down the street while she ran to the garage sale.  I picked up a large planter for $1 that I figure I can spray paint some bright color for next spring.  From there, my adrenaline started to trickle and I decided that we would spend the remainder of the morning scouting out garage sales.  At another garage sale, I ran into a lovely woman who alerted me to large tailgate sale at a church in the neighborhood.  After going from table to table with my daughter running wild over the abundant toy selection, I was finally able to focus on the adult items and here is what I found...

The necklace is R.J. Graziano and it is gold with light chocolate stones.  This necklace makes my eyes sparkle!  The fur scarf is Dennis Basso and I'm having visions of wearing it very casually with a cream sweater, jeans and boots.  Both were $10.  Oooo la la!  Next to waking up, my daughter waking up and us having another day of life together, these are the kind of finds that make my day simply marvelous!
