The Diva Plan: My Money!

The second most important thing in my diva plan is the one thing that allows me to live comfortably and plan for the future and that is MY MONEY!

I haven't always been the best money manager.  I've been up and down.  I've lived in financial bliss and I've also lived in near financial ruin.  If I were to put my finger on what caused the latter, I would have to honestly say it was a lack of consistent financial habits.  When pondering the blissful times, I realize I was very disciplined in those times.  The bottom line is, I now know that order works best for me when it comes to my money.  As a result, I've decided no matter what I'm going through or what's going on in the world, I'm going to stick to my personal financial plan.  Damn the recession!  If I stick with it, I'll be creating the blissful financial atmosphere I prefer.  Here is a snapshot of what I've come up with.
  • I will stick to my budget.
  • I will stick to my shopping list.
  • I will begin saving a set amount and I will not take it out of my savings.
  • I will open an account specifically to save for my child's future.
  • I will increase my 401K by 1% every year in January.
  • I will pay an additional $50 per month towards the principal on my mortgage.
  • I will continue to develop my entrepreneurial ideas.
    • My Financial Hierarchy
      1. Honor The Lord
      2. Pay Bills
      3. Save
      4. Enjoy
    • My Yearly Savings Plan
      1. December to March=Vacation
      2. April to July=School Supplies
      3. August to November=Christmas
Once again, your plan doesn't need to look like my plan.  For example, you may decide it is better for you to increase your retirement savings every other year; some of us may be able to save $500 a month while others may be able to save $20 a month.  My plan simply hits all of the financial points that are most important to me.  My plan also considers the things I would like to be able to do, as well as those times of the year that I know are financially draining for me.

Remember, no pressure, because once again for every woman who feels the need to have a diva plan, I'm right in the midst of trying to make this plan work for me also.  Smooches!

The Diva Plan: Taking Care of Me!

To begin the process of creating and living your own diva plan, you have to start with self.  Being that most women have busy lifestyles which require us to tend to families, living spaces and employers; oftentimes, we put our own well-being last on the to do list.  Taking care of ourselves doesn't always have to imply spending money on material things or personal appearance.  The outside will take care of itself once the inside has been satisfied.  With that said, this is where my diva plan begins, with internal self and health.  Page 1 of your diva plan should be a plan to calm any internal struggles, as well as any health issues.  Here is what my Taking Care of Me plan looks like:

  • I will find a place to worship, tithe and attend regularly.
  • I will stop smoking.
  • I will choose what goes into my body carefully.
  • I will wake up early enough to meditate and exercise 20-30 each day.
  • I will see my primary care physician, OB/GYN and dentist at least once a year.
  • I will care take of my hair by keeping it clean, conditioned and moisturized.
  • From April to September, I will treat myself to a pedicure at least once a month.
  • From October to March, I will continue to give my feet the tender loving care they need.

Your Taking Care of Me plan doesn't need to look like, nor include the same things I have on my plan.  Yours should be based on what your immediate needs are.  My list includes things that I am concerned about and think about almost daily.  Don't feel under pressure to be perfect or follow your plan line by line each day.  Trust me, I'm about 8 years behind on some parts of my plan, but I'm ready and willing to start over.

Please share your some of the components of your Taking Care of Me plan and also your progress.  I will definitely be sharing mine!

What is the Diva Plan?

I've been out for a while.  Nothing tragic to report.  I've just been busy with the stuff of life.  Although I'm always on a quest to tidy all of the little corners of my life, my life is no different than the average woman.  I wear many hats each day and sometimes I get caught up with so many hats on my head that I forget to take time refocus on my purpose.

When I started this blog it was easy for me to create posts about things that make me tick.  Fashion makes me tick.  Accessories make me tick.  Finding fashionable bargains make me tick.  However, the purpose of The Diva Plan is not necessarily all about looking good and shopping.  For women, those things are important, but being balanced in order to fulfill dreams should be a higher priority.

Well before the inception of this blog, I created a personal mission to create a life that I could be happy with and I didn't just think about it; I put it on paper.  For years, I have let this plan marinate.  It has been reviewed, edited and reworked, but never actually realized.  Hopefully for the next few months, I will begin to share with my visitors what The Diva Plan actually is.  I desire to see the successful completion of at least the core purpose of The Diva Plan and that is to create and live a life in which dreams are fulfilled and happiness stays on board.

Please participate with me and begin creating your own Diva Plan!
